The Wedding Chapel
The use of the historic wedding chapel is included in the Oakhurst wedding package.
The chapel seats up to 150 people.
Oakhurst's historic chapel was built in 1874, when Walter Dumbleton, land surveyor, owner and builder of Oakhurst house discussed plans with Bishop West Jones of the Diocese of Cape Town for the building of an Anglican church on the Oakhurst estate.
Dumbleton drew up plans for a simple Gothic structure and in May 1875, masons begin the foundations. Local labourers made the baked bricks, taking the clay from the veld behind the church site. Yellow wood was cut from Oakhurst forest for the pews and Mr. Dumbleton himself made the alter, rails and lectern. He also made the molds for the casting of the cross on the church and chancel and the pedestal of the font.
Today this historic chapel forms the centre of many of Oakhurst's weddings and forms an integril part to many couples plans for their country wedding.
Our wedding on Oakhurst Farm surpassed what we had envisioned for our day. We had the ceremony in the beautiful church, which was built in the early 1800s. The raw beauty of the farm’s landscape made the outdoor setting perfect for the reception. What we loved most was creating a relaxed, homey space between the trees. We are forever grateful towards you for helping make our wedding the most magical weekend. thank you!

The graceful All Saints Church on the beautiful Oakhurst Farm was the location of our wedding. The magnificent Outeniqua Mountains act as the perfect background to the church, which is set partway along a striking avenue of trees in a rural idyll of long green grass, happy cows, dams, hay bales and horses. The Oakhurst staff were professional, helpful and cheerful and were a large part of the success of the wedding weekend.
